SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2018 — Norwalk, CT. Shake off the winter doldrums
and walk among the trees! Oak Hills Park, our public golf course, will host a special
free “Winter Trail Walk” led by a local arborist on Saturday, February 17, 2018,
starting at 1:00 P.M. Come and learn more about recognizing trees and other
nature elements in wintertime. Hosted by the Oak Hills Park Nature Advisory
Committee, local arborist Richard Whitehead will lead the walk.

Rich Whitehead is a licensed Connecticut arborist, chair of the Norwalk Tree
Advisory Committee, and member of both the Norwalk Tree Alliance and the
Connecticut Tree Protective Association. Rich’s tour will point out how to recognize
tree species from studying bark and other indicators, when leaves are absent. And,
walkers will learn about the diversity of our local wintering shrubs, plants, and

The newly marked nature trails are located behind the Oak Hills Park restaurant
building, with the trail beginning at the green “Nature Trail” sign at the top of the
parking lot. The trails are modestly challenging (gently rising terrain with
occasional obstacles). The approximate trail length is 1.5 miles.

Oak Hills Park Nature Advisory Committee recommends wearing boots with good
traction as the trail is winding and steep in places. In case of snow/bad weather, the
walk will be held the following Saturday, February 24. The park is located at 165
Fillow Street, Norwalk. Follow the road to its end at the clubhouse/restaurant, with
the trail head located behind the parking lot.

Be ready to see winter’s natural beauty!
